Coming down from the fells is harder on the knees than going up. This painting was inspired by the descent from Pavey Ark, which is a long walk uphill, but then the descent back to the New Dungeon Ghyll hotel kicks in and can be a real slog. But what views over the Langdale Valley! On this day I was lucky, rewarded by dramatic views of scudding light over the valley bottom, with shafts of sunlight illuminating the fields in the valley below.
