Sometime you just have to put paint on in thick juicy slabs of colour. I think it’s a winter thing. When the landscape seems washed out and a bit watery, I feel the need to introduce some extra colour.
It’s the winter solstice and the short days and long nights make me crave the warm summer days. At the end of last May I spent a week in Whitby and spent time on the beach, looking out across the harbour. It rained every day but I took plenty of reference photos.
Luckily I had my sketchbook and camera handy so now, in the long nights I can try to recreate some of those summer memories.
