I was painting this view earlier today and sitting under the beech trees by the side of the Rivington Reservoir I was struck by how this year’s fine weather has given us days of purest spring light.
It might be my imagination but the atmosphere seems to be clearer this year, the sky more blue. The trees have retained their pale yellow green colouring and haven’t yet developed the darker mono green of midsummer.
Painting in the shade is essential on these hottest of summer days. So woodlands next to a lake or reservoir are ideal and hence this view of beech trees and people walking their dogs. It’s a watercolour study into a new sketchbook. I love anew sketchbook with all the excitement and promise that brings!
All in all 2018 is shaping up to a magnificent summer.
